Fluency practice

The point that has stood out to me in the text and the Rosinsiki article is to achieve fluency rereading practice is essential. I had previously thought that kids should always try to read new things slightly above their reading level so that they would be challenged. Fluency practice actually looks like something most kids would enjoy doing. I really liked the idea of using dramatic readings such as poetry or stories that can be read as plays. Also a great way to engage different levels of readers without embarrassment. What fun!

  1. I definitely agree with your post. It is very important for children to practice fluency rereading. Many people do not view this aspect of reading as important as it actually is. I did not realize how important it is until this class and these articles. Through these articles I have attained so many new ideas that I cannot wait to use in my classroom one day.

  2. I had the same outlook on reading instruction as you did before reading these articles. I thought the best way for students to become better readers would be to be challenged with higher level books. I agree with you, rereading students favorite books in order to develop fluency is probably something they would enjoy doing!

  3. Before this class I had not realized how important rereading was for children. As a child, I never liked to reread books, especially chapter books because I always wanted something new. I felt like if I read the book over again it wouldn't be exciting. Now I'm beginning to realize that rereading is a very good thing, and I should probably start practicing!

  4. Alyssa I agree with you (and am still like that on some books!). I don't like to reread books because I think since I've read it I'll remember it or I'll want something new and exciting! I completely agree with you there! Jennifer, I absolutely loved the video you posted! My sister is in second grade and they incorporate iPad's into their learning and lessons! I'll have to send this video to her teacher as a reference if she ever needs ideas! Love it!
