Ten Words

Really enjoyed the Yopp article which outlined a very specific way to teach vocabulary. Every step of this activity seems valuable from the picking out of the important words to the plus activities that can be added at the end. The potential for the variety of activities makes this activity easily adaptable for the different level students in the class. One point that stood out was to make your classroom a place that gets excited about words. Enthusiasm is contagious! Could not resist making a wordle with words from the article.

  1. I love that you used a wordle. I think that this web 2.0 tool is a good way to encourage vocabulary and literacy in the classroom. Children can even make their own wordle. For example, if you give children a word, they can make a wordle by using all the words the describe the one that you have given them. Just an idea.

  2. I thought about using a Wordle to go along with this reading as well! It is such a clever way to highlight words for children. Your thought about enthusiasm being contagious is so true. If we as teachers get excited about words in our classroom, it encourages the children to share in the excitement.
